When is it Time to Replace Walker or Gait Trainer?

How can you tell that it is time to replace your walker or gait trainer? Consider the following questions. If you answer "yes" to any of these, it may be time to replace your special needs equipment.

Positioning Signs

  • Is the walker frame raised as high as it will go, and the handles are aligned below the hip joints?

  • Does the individual’s weight exceed the maximum weight capacity of the gait trainer or the walker?

  • Are the forearm supports lower than the person’s bent elbows and forearms?
