Understanding Rear Steering

Many caregivers look at the rear steering option for an adaptive tricycle and wonder if it is worth the added expense, or if it will be useful. Indications for the rear steering feature are discussed below. If the rider needs any assistance while pedaling the tricycle, the rear steering feature is definitely something to consider.

  • Care-giver controls the direction of the bike from the rear
  • Care-giver can also control the speed and steering
  • Great for new bike riders to concentrate on pedaling while care-giver focuses on steering and speed
  • The pedals still move so that riders get the movement of their legs for strength training and range of motion
  • Standard features with Freedom Concepts Bikes
  • Optional accessory on Rifton Bikes

Please contact one of our therapists at 1-800-371-2778 if you have any questions concerning rear steering for your special needs trike.
