Living With... Cerebral Palsy

Hi! My name is Logan. I am 11 years old. When I was born, I suffered an intracranial bleed that led to Hydrocephalus. This caused me to have 20 shunt revision surgeries and a craniotomy all within my first 10 months of life. Because of the Hydrocephalus and surgeries, I have been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Globally Developmentally Delayed and Epilepsy.

While I have difficulty with mobility, I have special equipment that helps me with my mobility and gross motor skills. With this equipment, I am able to be more mobile and independent. Some of my equipment includes the R82 Crocodile Walker and the R82 Rabbit. I love my Rabbit because it allows me to stand and see life from a different perspective. It also has wheels so I can get from place to place on my own. My Rabbit has also helped me to travel and see places like the Grand Canyon up close!

My daily life is full of fun activities. During the school year, I attend a private school. I get to be with my friends all day and love to go to music, art and computer class. In the winter, I get to visit our vacation home. Swimming, going for car rides and going to the zoo are some of my favorite activities. In the summer, our cabin on the lake is the best. I get to go on the boat, go tubing, jet skiing, and for quad rides. Last summer, I fell off the tube and thought it was hilarious! I also get to sit on the dock with my family and play with my toys and work on my flashcards. Sitting around the campfire eating smores is so fun!

Although I have a disability, I like things that every 11 year old boy likes. Some of my favorite hobbies are listening to music, going on outings and playing with my toys. I also like to spend time with my family and friends. I don’t understand television, I-pods, cell phones or video games. So time with my family is very important to me.

My mom and dad are the most important people in my life. Without them, my life wouldn’t be what it is today; full of love. They have been by my side 24/7! As I spent a whole year of my life in the Children’s Hospital, my mom never left my side. They know me best and I will love them always.
